Look Out for The Junior Crush!
We all know and love our collegiate Cortland Crush team. However, a group of ball players you may not be so familiar with are the young men of the Junior Crush. The Junior Crush enters its third season in 2021 and the program has once again doubled in size by adding two more levels of play for a total of four teams.
“The Junior Crush is a youth program that is committed to developing fundamental skills at the individual and team level” said General Manager Steve Woodard. “We also aim to instill the values of hard work, positive attitudes, sportsmanship, and good character.”
Last summer, both the Junior Crush teams experienced tremendous growth and success as both the 14U and 16U teams were crowned Champions of the inaugural Cortland Crush Summer Baseball Classic for their age groups. The 14U team earned a Championship in the Syracuse Summer Sizzler tournament as well. This year the four Junior Crush teams, 13U, 14U, 16U and 17U, are hungry for more success. They are currently completing their off season program which consists of weekly practices and conditioning sessions at the JM McDonald Sport Complex.
Each team will play a 10-12 game regular season and will compete in four highly competitive tournaments throughout the 6 week summer season. Tournament play this summer is highlighted by a trip for all four Junior Crush teams to Sandusky, Ohio where they will each compete in the Callahan Auto Parts Classic.
This tournament has a three-game guarantee with all contests played on state of the art turf fields and every player receiving a free five-day pass with in/out privileges to Cedar Point Amusement Park.
It should be an exciting summer for youth baseball in Cortland. Keep an eye out for the Junior Crush at Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex this season!
